Networking Infrastructure for DTV

Peter Owen

This paper seeks to explore several of the key issues with regard to the interchange of video data between systems. It lists some of the attributes associated with the various image formats in common use in the television today. While the use of file transfer techniques via a network connection has some advantages over exporting as video streams it also has other characteristics that require managing to stop bottlenecks occurring. — This paper lists the requirements of a system to transfer video at high speed via a network connection. It includes information on the efforts of some of the standards bodies to harmonise the transfer of video images in this way. It then lists findings on video networking formed while designing a new video networking system called Clipnet.
