Video Performance Measurements in DTV Transmission Systems

Edward Reuss

During the transition from analog to digital, the typical video facility will have to support a mixture of both analog and digital video equipment. This mixed facility requires a combination of analog and digital video performance measurement tools to verify proper video image quality. In many cases the traditional analog video performance measurements can be used to infer proper performance in a digital video transmission system. This paper summarizes some of the performance issues in analog, digital and mixed analog/digital video transmission systems and some of the methods that can be used to verify proper video performance.
