Removal of Spatial and Temporal Alias Artifacts in Format Conversion and Display

William E. Glenn

Scan conversion from interlace to progressive scan usually brings with it the temporal alias that causes interline flicker. Spatially sampled images or images displayed on a trinatron frequently have moiré beats (spatial alias frequencies) between the video, the system clock and the display sampling structure. This paper will describe ways to prevent these aliases from becoming visible without sacrifice resolution or motion rendition.
