Advanced Techniques for Conversion to and from p24
The 1080p24 format is gaining acceptance as a worldwide interchange format for film originated material as well as 24 frames per second (Fps) video originated material. For content mastered on film and transferred at 24 Fps, the conversion to 1080p24 is transparent. For content previously transferred at 30 Fps, and subsequently processed, the conversion to 1080p24 becomes much more challenging. This process is complicated by such factors as electronic editing, vari-speed, video effects, video titles, fades, film compositing, and animation. Proper handling of these “exceptions” is essential to maintaining high quality through the conversion process. Also challenging is proper conversion of 25 Fps film to 1080p24. This paper will examine the advanced techniques required to properly address the conversion requirements to and from p24.
