The conversion of the nation's broadcast television stations to ATSC digital transmission affords the opportunity for the distribution of rich media content by means of data broadcasting. In a data broadcasting network, content objects such as digitally encoded video, audio, still photos, graphics, e-books, games and software applications are interleaved with television programs in the television station's MPEG transport stream.
