Storage Helps the Broadcast Industry Advance with New Technology

Tom Inglefield

It is no longer news to anyone, not even outside the industry, that television and motion pictures have entered the digital domain. What might be news, even to insiders, is the variety of issues associated with implementing digital technologies. Does digital transmission also require digital storage? What storage technologies will be used? How will digital technologies change storage distribution models? How will long-term storage archiving work? What is the cost impact? How reliable will these storage technologies be? What storage media will be used? This paper aims at addressing the above questions and will focus on the management and storage of digital assets as well as the benefits of a digital archive.
