Opening Address—23rd Television Conference

Good Morning ladies and gentlemen, members and guests. Welcome to the 23rd Annual Television Conference of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. Welcome also to the ever beautiful “City by the Bay”. The theme of this conference “Better Video Images” and the papers to be presented today and tomorrow should, we hope, generate much interest as to where we are now and where we are going into the future. A change you have no doubt noticed is that there are no equipment exhibits at this Conference. This came about as a result of a request from the equipment exhibitors who cited both escalating costs and drain of resources in the proliferation of exhibits at shows. We believe that the full plate of papers to be presented here will keep you fully occupied.
