Component Color Production Switchers Analog and Digital Trade-Offs

As the interest level rises in the use of component color television production equipment, a review of the pros and cons of various approachs to the implementation of a component color production switcher may be of value. Analog and digital solutions have been proposed. This paper will look at the trade-offs between the various possible approaches and attempt to offer a reasonable path to the future. To this end, the basic functions of a production switcher will be reviewed, and the benefits and problems associated with different design approaches will be reviewed.
