Recent Advances in Digital Video Recording

During the last year or so, there has been a great deal of discussion in the Broadcast and Teleproduction industry about digital television –– especially digital video recording. A number of companies have been doing some very important work in the digital recording area. But much work remains to be done. For instance, the proper choice of certain key recording parameters is very important to the long term effectiveness and user value of digital recorders. Also, the matter of recording format standardization is a very important area that requires careful consideration and intensive technical effort. The technological issues of digital recording are complex and sophisticated –– there are a great many variables and trade-off alternatives.
