Edge-Preserving Recovery of Damaged Blocks for Block-Based Image Coding
In this paper, we present a recovery algorithm for reconstructing damaged blocks for block-based coding. The proposed algorithm considers 2 properties of natural images, edge continuity and boundary smoothness, which are the most annoying unless they are not satisfied. It consists of edge estimation, spatial prediction, and POCS (Projections onto Convex Sets) iteration. Edge estimation and spatial prediction guarantee edge continuity and POCS iteration smoothes pixel values at the block boundaries. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional ones.
