Post Production Editing for Today and Tomorrow
When you examine the component digital formats offered for use in post production only one has all the characteristics required by this most demanding application. The features most asked for are high signal quality, excellent multiple generation performance, high speed of operation, 525/625 line standard switchability, convenient archival storage capacity, good long term interchange, and low maintenance costs. The combination of all of these features are present only in the AMPEX DCT 700d tape drives. Prior to designing a format to meet these requirements we first looked closely at how well the original component digital format, D1, was meeting these goals.
