How the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Leveraged the Benefits of ST 2110 and Transitioned Away from Baseband Video Formats

Jeremy Hochman, Scott Blair, Joe Bleasdale

This paper examines the limitations of baseband video formats in large-scale live events, with a focus on the advantages provided by the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. By comparing traditional point-to-point video transmission methods with IP-based infrastructure, the paper outlines key benefits such as improved metadata reliability, reduced physical equipment, and increased system flexibility. A case study of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 illustrates the application of these technologies, highlighting the role of a network-based architecture in achieving high pettormance and reliability for live video transmission.
