Evolving TR-07 & TR-08: Improving Overall Interoperability While Also Integrating JPEG XS Temporal Differential Coding

John Dale

Technical Recommendations TR-07 and TR-08 were originally developed by the Video Services Forum (VSF) to provide an interoperable method for the transport of low latency JPEG XS coded video over LAN and WAN IP networks. As part of VSF's ongoing initiative, these TRs are undergoing a substantial revision aimed at enhancing clarity, consistency, and practical real-world interoperability across a variety of media transport environments. Interoperability testing across many different hardware and software implementors since the last revision in April 2022 has revealed numerous TR ambiguities and mis-interpretations, resulting in interfacing problems between different vendors. This presentation will provide a closer, in-depth look at upcoming TR changes to improve these interoperability issues while also highlighting the integration of JPEG-XS Temporal Differential Coding (TDC) into both TR-07 and TR-08.
