What will Replace the CRT for Professional Video Monitors?

Cathode-ray tubes (CRTs) have all but disappeared from the marketplace, and new display technologies are rushing in to take their place. Today, consumer TV sales now drive the market for displays, not professional applications. Are these new display technologies suitable for reference-grade monitor applications? The answer is yes, although the two most common technologies (LCD and plasma) both have advantages and disadvantages, while other technologies (OLEDs and FEDs) - while promising - are still waiting in the wings.
