An End-to-End Managed Media Archive Workflow for Scalability, Interoperability and Data Longevity

Lee Hu, Sam Sun, Lan Yang

The media data set is growing exponentially due to digital revolution and ubiquitous deployment (e.g. cell phone video). Current patch solution with storage, archive, workflow and networking is not scalable and costly from long term perspective. We propose a set of principles and implementation schemes for a scalable, interoperable and long-lasting architecture for enterprise. We pursue technology virtualization, storage virtualization, location virtualization and device virtualization and emphasize at data supply and consumption perspective. The important goal is to work with today's existing and heterogeneous infrastructure and gradually phase in a mechanism to manage the data and its access while providing an open framework for future technology.
