CBS Television Network HDTV Satellite News Gathering Requirements
This document describes a proof of performance test CBS Engineering conducted to validate the technical specifications and requirements for High Definition Satellite News Gathering (HDSNG). The test results indicate that HDSNG is now possible using much of the existing satellite infrastructure and is due to the evolution of two new technologies that use bandwidth more efficiently; specifically, DVB-S2 [1] modulation and AVC/MPEG-4 [2] video compression.
