Aspects and Considerations about the Mechanical Format of Digital VTRs

In the magnetic recording of conventional television signals in a studio, a bandwidth of about 5 MHz must be recorded. The physical characteristics of familiar recording systems and the requirements in regard to signal-to-noise ratio are taken into account by using narrow-band frequency modulation. A typical frequency spectrum of this type of recording is shown in Figure 1.
