Delivering Clean Broadcast Video Over Converged IP Infrastructures

Jeffrey K. Jensen

Delivering high quality full motion video images in the home over broadband has for decades seemed a futuristic dream. Historically, this was more the realm of World Fair displays, science fiction novels and movies than reality. As networking technologies, protocols, and video compression advances have evolved, they have made it possible to deploy broadcast quality video services over converged network infrastructures; these futuristic visions have moved into the real world. These technologies are now mature enough for the “other” VoIP – Video over IP – to take its place in the world of IP networks. But beyond these foundation technologies, what are the performance requirements and enabling technologies for offering such services?
