Extended Definition Television with High Picture Quality

Broder Wendland

Present day TV-Systems do not offer a picture quality which would meet the requirements of future systems and applications. This is true at least for picture reproduction on large screens or in connection with new services as e.g. teletex or computer graphics. Therefore about 12 years ago the Japanese (NHK) were starting experiments with high line number TV-systems and they created a 1125 line system with a luminance bandwidth of about 20 MHz /1/.
