The Evolution of Electronic Stereoscopy

Lenny Lipton

Field-sequential electro-stereoscopy is in daily use in computer graphics applications, but remains relatively unknown as a method of video display. Substantial progress has been made in electro-optical shutters, enabling the manufacture of selection devices with good performance at a relatively low price. Many products by various manufacturers are now offered that conform to the same specifications, so that computers, monitors, graphics boards, and software form a coherent stereoscopic system.
