A Proposal for Integrating Digital Audio Distribution into TV Production
The integration of AES digital audio signals into an analog signal plant presents several dilemmas. The AES signal's wide bandwidth presents cable length, crosstalk, and radiation problems, and requires special-purpose distribution and switching equipment. Three possible levels of solution are proposed, beginning with passive normalization of the digital signal to a common format that can be treated like a video signal. Simple multiplex techniques can expand this approach to accommodate additional audio channels and ancillary signals.
