Paul A. Snopko, Jong G. Kim

The purpose of this article is to show that broadcasters and television post-production houses can economically make the transition to simulcasting high-definition television (HDTV) by upconverting NTSC video to digital spectrum-compatible (DSC) HDTV. All NTSC video source equipment, studios, cameras, tape equipment, telecines, and current libraries can be used in connection with an NTSC DSC-HDTV upconverter, described here.
