Merging Digital Technology into an Analog World

Thomas R. Sprague

Over the past five years the population of composite digital videtape recorders (VTRs) has grown to over 10,000 machines. Yet, most of these machines are installed in totally analog environments where many of the benefits of digital recording are lost to both the analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion process as well as alignment errors in the analog signal path. Much of the “digital” advantage can be restored with the addition of a single composite digital mixer/keyer such as the DYAD2, which has been developed jointly by Paltex International and Imaging Systems.
