Motion Pictures
In my first report as Editorial Director, Motion Pictures, it is my privilege to relate to you the key technical trends and advances that appear to be most significant to the future of motion pictures. In addition to the significant technical advances that surfaced in 1993, further commercialization of important recent achievements were perhaps more significant, particularly those aimed at improving theatrical presentation. With regard to these achievements, if there was a single descriptor that was used most frequently in 1993, that descriptor would most assuredly be “digital.” Digital imaging and digital sound, as examples, seemed to be the refrains of the day. Let us examine both of these topics in some detail.
