A Comparison between HD Hyper-HAD CCD Camera and Color Film for Television Program Production
The emergence of a 2 million pixel 16:9 charge-coupled device (CCD) imager has substantially advanced the overall performance of the HDTV camera. The protracted electronic pursuit of 35mm motion-picture film imaging quality is now effectively over. This article compares the performance attributes of an HDTV CCD camera with 35mm film from the viewpoint of parameters critical to originating high-end television programs, including camera sensitivity, picture sharpness, dynamic range, and noise.
