Foreword: The 1994 Progress Report Prepared by the Progress Committee of the SMPTE

As in previous years, this SMPTE Progress Report records advances in the technologies of the motion-picture and television arts and sciences. It gives an account of these events as well as permits a glimpse into the future. We are indebted once again to our contributors all over the world for providing this information; the members of the Progress Committee; Engineering Vice-President Ken Davies; Editorial Directors Paul Berger and Frank Ricotta; Sections Vice-President John Carlson; and the Journal staff, especially Aileen Moroney and Joyce Hurwitz, for its compilation. We thank them and those who supported them in their effort to chronicle progress in this field over the past year.
