Message from the President—September 1997

David L. George

Over the past several months I have been reminding you on a regular basis of several of the ways in which your Society can, and does, serve many of your personal, professional, and informational needs. I have also brought to your attention benefits of membership that you may not have been aware of or never taken advantage of. And I have explained to you that we are actively seeking additional ways in which we can add to or improve our service to you and provide you with additional professional support. However, in my very first message to you as President, I also addressed the issue of the then-recent demise of the WME coalition and the challenges the Society would be facing in rebuilding a conference franchise of its own. Now that issue, and its several ramifications, has to be squarely faced.
