A Television Resolution Comparison of 525 Line 4:3 Vs. 16:9 Vs. HDTV

Henry Mahler

The resolution of a television image is a function of the television system used to create the image. When that image is delivered to the home, it may be affected by many elements in the delivery path between the original image source and the home receiver. However, the resolution of the image can never be better than the resolution of the original source material, whether it is digitally generated, imaged electronically, or captured on film. For that reason, it is extremely important to utilize the source format and media that are appropriate to a particular television delivery system.
