Data Reduced Production Technology Using the DVCPRO and/or MPEG-2 4:2:2 Format
The introduction of image compression into the field of production technology presents a number of technical and creative opportunities and economic advantages. At the end of 1999, the FKTG (Association for Television, Film, and Electronic Media) in Germany, invited experts on two systems—DVCPRO and MPEG-2 4:2:2—to take part in a panel discussion to give this topic a broader airing in public. These systems and their potential uses were discussed by representatives of their respective companies. This paper describes the result of this discussion.
