An Object Server Supporting Metadata for Video Intensive Internet-Based Access

Christopher C. Woollard

This paper describes a project of the University of Greenwich, London, employing metadata to increase the usefulness of objects produced by the broadcasting and film industries in more general industrial contexts. Within the construction industry, planning for large-scale projects requires integration of conventionally shot and edited video, computer-generated video, and VR models. These are merged with various CAD and related models to produce a complex object capable of being viewed by those wishing to extract information with views relevant to their speciality. Managing this complexity is difficult and the paper presents XML-based metadata and object-oriented database technology as a practical technical basis upon which to build such a project integration tool.
