Color Film Processing and Environmental Protection

G. Vanreusel, M. de Ramaix, R. Vanhorebeek

Water pollution caused by the processing of large quantities of color film is studied and discussed. In many cases an important part of this problem could be solved if the discharge of bleach and fixing solutions could be avoided or minimized. Practical methods and actual equipment for the treatment and recycling of these solutions are described. An economic study based on results obtained with a color reversal system (Gevachrome II film) illustrates the profitability of this recycling method.
