The Significance of Doppler Shifts and Sun Transits in Television Distribution via Satellite

John P. Beyer

The technical factors which determine the Doppler frequency shifts and the seasonal sun interference effects for a television interconnection network via satellite are presented. Typical values for these two disturbances, which are unique to satellite systems, are illustrated by examples from the Public Broadcast Satellite Interconnection System (PBSIS).
