Société Française de Production and New Techniques of Production in Television and Cinema
The mission of the state-owned SFP is to produce an international product for the French television companies and for cinema. With a staff of 3000 and an annual budget equal to 124 million dollars, SFP specializes in an international product for television companies. A substantial effort is being made to produce feature films in video, but using the single-camera film technique; the lastest technology makes this a very attractive approach. The evolution of techniques in film production is another major concern, and the use of time-code equipment, automated mixing machines, high-speed film transports — and in some cases, parallel video systems — is essential. Outside-broadcast coverage of events such as bicycle races from motorcycles and helicopters is being perfected. Finally, work is underway on a video transmission network that can ultimately involve 1000 projection halls. Video transmission is viewed as a way to improve theater-utilization factors and counteract the isolation that home television tends to promote.
