Videotape Post Production: Operating Procedures

Lawrence J. Kreeger

Editors who have traditionally worked with film-editing equipment and optical printers can be just as creative working in the videotape medium, now that single-frame accuracy is possible. Except for blowups, zooms and flips, all of the special effects of film can be duplicated in videotape, and even these may soon be done electronically. Operating procedures are described for on-line editing of 2-in quadruplex videotape for broadcast purposes and off-line editing, where other formats are used in intermediate steps and the final product may be in any format from 2-in quadruplex to ¾-in helical cassette. It is hoped that this information will be useful to film-production people who are beginning to avail themselves of video technology.
