Notes on Photokina 1978
Again the 1978 Photokina exhibition at Cologne has marked a new stage of expansion, with a record representation of 1018 firms from 27 countries. Once more the United States, with 139 direct exhibitors and another 8 organizations represented, made the largest contribution after the home country, West Germany. Other countries present in force were Japan and the United Kingdom, with 86 firms each, France with 71, and Italy with 68. Trade visitor attendance also set a new record of 122,000, a 5% increase. One-third of these visitors came from 117 countries outside West Germany. From the vast display of equipment, I can offer notes on only a few areas in which developments since the previous exhibition in 1976 seemed apparent.
