Audiovisual Programs at the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements

M. Cobley, G. Graham

For its International Conference on Human Settlements, (Habitat), held in Vancouver, Canada in 1976, the United Nations, for the first time in its history, established a policy of accepting audiovisual records as official documentation on substantive issues. This was the first attempt by that body to use this technique on a major meeting involving worldwide participation. This paper provides an overview of the resources, facilities and services provided by Canada, as Host Country, to meet the requirements for multiple language versions and access systems to the programs at various sites in Vancouver, British Columbia.
