The 2-In Return-Beam Saticon: A High-Resolution Camera Tube
A 2-in (5.08-cm) photoconductive camera tube with a return-beam system has been constructed experimentally at the NHK Technical Research Laboratories for use as a high-resolution camera tube. High-resolution television surpasses the conventional system in producing wide-angle, fine-grained, high-resolution pictures, and the NHK Technical Research Laboratories have made considerable progress during the last few years on the basic investigation of the picture format, picture-quality standard, transmission system, and related fields. Needless to say, the high-resolution camera tube requires high resolving power in addition to a high S/N ratio to achieve good picture quality, high sensitivity, and low lag characteristics. The 2-in return-beam Saticon (RBS) tube introduced here is intended for use in imaging systems associated with ongoing research on high-resolution television systems. The basic investigations leading to a trial construction are explained briefly, and an outline is given of the construction and operation of the experimental camera tube. Measurement results and photographs of the displayed picture are also presented.
