The Use of Microcomputers and Microprocessors in Modern VTR Control

Heinz-Dieter Geise

Microcomputers can be used in the design of time-code generators and editing systems. A time-code generator with a single-chip microcomputer and the layout of two editing systems having distributed processing are described. Here the microcomputer forms part of the master processor for both systems, one an “on-air” editing system and the other a production editing system. An intelligent control interface has been developed permitting a dialog between the master processor and the interface of the associated videotape recording equipment. A brief description of features of the on-line production editing system is given. A slow-motion programmer completes the line of peripheral videotape recording control equipment. It too uses an incorporated microcomputer for greater versatility.
