System Performance Objectives and Acceptance Testing of the Public Television Satellite Interconnection System

R. Evans Wetmore

A tutorial explanation of a satellite television transmission system is first given, including the general theory of operation, the determination of the figure of merit (G/T) of a ground terminal, and a general discussion of wideband FM transmission as it relates to satellite transmission. The application of this theory is then shown as it relates to the Public Broadcasting Satellite Interconnection System (PBSIS). Various terminal configurations are discussed. The testing of the system is explained and related to the overall activity of designing and installing the system. Finally, a brief discussion is offered of some special facets and problems of the system.
