Distributive Processing Techniques in Post Production Editing

K. F. Eichstadt, D. Roady, J. Roizen

Post production editing and general machine control in television studios often require interfacing—adapting two or more machines to each other when they ordinarily are not compatible from the data or control standpoint. The microprocessor or user-programmable computer-on-a-chip and the dedicated interface can provide a very cost-effective, flexible solution to this problem. Both off line and on line editing techniques are described and attention is given to a particular implementation called the “intelligent interface” that has many of the characteristics of the “Afrabus” (which is a machine control system—using serial control bits over a coaxial cable—advocated by the Institut für Rundfunktechnik).
