Film Cleaning by Ultrasonic Liquid Cavitation and Acceptable Solvents

Ronald N. Haig

The phenomenon of cavitation in a liquid provides a highly efficient means of cleaning film surfaces without making any physical contact with the film surfaces undergoing treatment. The following aspects are discussed: transducer systems; type of cavitation and bubble pressures; oscillator frequency and how it affects cavitation intensity; bubble size and distribution; the correct value of transducer input power; diffuse and focused methods of converting the electrical signal into mechanical energy for the production of cavitation; film cleaning solvents; and the drying of a film cleaned in a volatile solvent.
