The Effects of Analog Filtering on the Picture Quality of Component Digital Television Systems
The analog filtering performed in conjunction with component digital video systems has a dramatic effect on picture quality. This paper discusses filter trade-offs for several levels of a hierarchy of component digital television systems and illustrates the effects of these trade-offs on picture quality. The optimization of subjective picture quality results in unconventional filter characteristics and challenges the headroom* requirements that are often cited for digital video systems.
