A Hierarchy of Digital Standards for Teleproduction in the Year 2001

Kerns H. Powers

The author is concerned with the extension of hierarchy levels of digital standards as they apply upward to high-definition television and downward to lower quality levels. Some consideration should be given to simple transcoding algorithms for conversions among the hierarchy levels. The article deals with a prediction of the effects digital standards and advancing technology will have on television and film production by the year 2001. Consequently, the reader's imagination should come into play and consider the possibilities posed by rapidly growing digital television technology.
