A New Printer Film Transport System

John M. Ehrenberg

The basic design for continuous contact printer transport systems has remained virtually unchanged for over half of a century. Nevertheless, film transport speeds for release printing have steadily increased due to the need for more improved laboratory efficiency. Advances in electronics technology now make it possible to greatly simplify the film transport system design, for improved operational efficiency and print quality. In addition, simpler film transport system designs will also be easier on the film itself, thereby greatly lengthening useful negative life. A description is given of the new film transport system employed in the Bell & Howell Model 6123 continuous contact release printer.
