Magnetic Recording of a High-Definition Television Signal
Experimental results are presented for the first stage of research at NHK on the magnetic recording of a high-definition television (HDTV) signal. The method makes use of a combination of technologies: a wideband Mn-Zn ferrite recording head, a high-speed rotating γ-Fe2O3 coated flexible disk, and FM techniques with high carrier frequency and wide deviation. The result so far has been the successful storage of a monochrome baseband signal up to 18 MHz with high picture quality. A SNR of 40 dB (p-p, rms) has been obtained.
