Culture, Broadcasting, and the Canadian Identity

A. W. Johnson

This paper was part of a submission to the Canadian Cultural Policy Review Committee by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in March, 1981. It stresses the importance of culture to Canada's national survival and that a broadcasting system is the principal instrument of any national cultural life. The paper discusses the policies and programs the CBC feels must be established if the culture of the Canadian peoples is to survive and flourish and if Canadian society is to continue to evolve.
