Biographical Sketch
Julian D. Hopkinson, a native of England, attended Birmingham College of Technology, graduating in 1945 with a diploma in Metallurgical Chemistry. After graduation he joined the Royal Air Force, where he was a Flight Engineer, serving mainly in Palestine and the Eastern Mediterranean countries. Much of his unit's work consisted of aerial reconnaissance photography. From a very early age Hopkinson was interested in photography, even though during the war “photographic materials were terribly hard to get and a roll of film was a precious commodity.”
