SMPTE Working Group for Motion-Picture Filming in Space

Roland J. Zavada, Lincoln L. Endelman

Last fall, the SMPTE was contacted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to determine if we would be willing to work toward the establishment of requirements to ensure that NASA could provide the opportunity for the widest possible access to producers of space-related motion pictures. This was a unique opportunity for the Society to make an engineering contribution using its committee structure of volunteer experts in the motion picture discipline. The problem was assigned to the Society's Film Technology Committee and to a special Working Group set up by chairman of the Film Technology Committee, Lincoln Endelman, Perkin Elmer Corp.
