SMPTE Tutorial: Production Experience with High-Definition Television

Richard R. Green, Dwight F. Morss

This article describes a series of experimental programs produced using high-definition television as a joint project of NHK and CBS. Five short segments, representing a range of both television and film techniques, were produced to demonstrate the vast potential of HDTV as the production medium of the future. The authors describe the planning and production of the programs, and stress the need for a universally accepted studio standard for HDTV.
