A New Look at 70mm Sound: Proposed Revisions of Magnetic Sound Tracks for Theatrical Release Prints
The Hollywood Sound Directors Committee, in conjunction with the SMPTE Committee on Audio Recording and Reproduction Technology saw the need to resolve differences that exist in recording and reproduction of 70mm magnetic release print sound tracks. This article reports results of a study undertaken by the author at the request of the Hollywood Sound Directors Subcommittee for 70mm. Data is presented to show the feasibility of greatly enhanced performance in the theater, and proposals are made for revising existing practice and standards.
